Group Project: Spray Nozzle Extension for Client with Cerebral Palsy

The Extendo-Sprayer features a custom thermo-plastic straw and 3D-printed elements.

Dallas is a ten-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who loves to take care of her hair. She told us that she wishes she could apply detangling spray herself before she brushes her hair in the morning, so we came up with a solution.

Check out her YouTube channel!

With limited mobility and hand strength, Dallas is unable to reach her arm around to the back of her head (where she gets the most knots) and use her pointer finger to press down on the original nozzle. Our solution extends the spray’s reach and allows Dallas to activate the spray with her hand in front of her, where she is most comfortable.

We also added a thumb ring to the trigger to suit her smaller hands and clips to hold the sprayer in place. I created these pieces in SOLIDWORKS and 3D-printed them in turquoise, one of Dallas’s favorite colors.
